Ibaa Community Agog As NDDC Commissions Ultra-Modern International Market

It was a festive atmosphere in Ibaa Community today as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) commissioned a state-of-the-art Ultra-Modern International Market, a legacy project that marks a significant milestone in the Commission’s ongoing drive to impact lives across the Niger Delta.

The newly commissioned market comprises a storey building housing 20 lock-up shops, 126 open stalls, a modern toilet facility, a 12,000-gallon potable water tank, 2 office rooms, and is fully fenced with a secured gate. This landmark development aims to improve local commerce and uplift economic activities in Ibaa and its environs.

Speaking at the event, the Rivers State Representative on the NDDC Board, Hon. Chief Tony C. Okocha KSC JP DSSRS, who was accompanied by his supportive wife, Dame Ogechi Okocha, praised the contractor for executing a quality job. He also appreciated the Ibaa Community for their cooperation, which contributed to the timely completion of the project.

Chief Okocha revealed that the project was inspired by a visit he made to Ibaa last year, where he was moved with compassion after witnessing women trading in makeshift, shrine-like stalls. That experience, he noted, ignited a personal resolve to ensure the construction of a befitting market for the community.

In his remarks, Chief Okocha expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for entrusting them with the opportunity to serve. He also extended thanks to the Chairman of the NDDC Board, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, the MD/CEO Chief Samuel Ogbuku, and the entire 7th Governing Board for their collective commitment to making the project a reality.

The commissioning ceremony was performed by the Delta State Representative on the NDDC Board, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, who lauded the project as the best of its kind and urged the community to maintain and utilize it effectively.

Representatives of the Ibaa Council of Chiefs, youths, and women’s groups took turns to express deep appreciation to the NDDC and particularly to Chief Tony Okocha. The Student Union President presented an Award of Excellence to the Rivers State Representative in recognition of his commitment to community development.

The occasion was further graced by the presence of the North Central Representative on the NDDC Board, Hon. Nicholas Wende, among other dignitaries.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of traditional food items to Chief Okocha by the Royal Highness of Ibaa Community, HRH Hon. Dr. Wobodo Sunday Jonah JP, and the Council of Traditional Rulers, a mark of honor and appreciation.

NDDC… Making a Visible Difference.
