The Rivers State Police Command, led by the Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, in continuation of activities marking the National Police Day with a community service event. The celebration, which began on 2nd April, 2025, across the 36 states and the FCT, aimed to foster trust and confidence between the Police and the public.
CP Adepoju, along with Officers and men of the Command, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and Honorary Members of the Police Officers’ Mess, took their Community service to Creek Road Market, Mile 1 Park, and Azikiwe Road amongst others in Port-Harcourt where they engaged in cleaning activities.
Addressing journalists at Creek Road Market, CP Adepoju emphasized the importance of showcasing the Police Force’s role in Community service beyond law enforcement, building trust and confidence between the Police and the public. He stated that the Police Force is not just about law enforcement but also about serving the Community.
The CP noted that since the event started, the Command has been engaging with the Community and other key stakeholders through lectures, free medical services for members of the public and as well as members of the Police families and other activities to strengthen ties with the Community.
The Police is building trust and confidence in the people. The National Police Day is the first of its kind in line with the IGP’s directives. I want the residents to know that we are for them and we will continue to serve and protect them at all times. The public should know that we are free to dialogue with them. We will continue to observe this every year and they should see us as part of them, continue to synergize and relate with us. Police is your friend he asserted.
The Chairman of PCRC, Mr. Voke Emore, during an interview with journalists, noted that the PCRC is one of the people that marks the Police week. The collaboration between the Police and the Community is getting better and stronger. He commended the Police Command for its efforts in bridging the gap between the Police and the Community. He encouraged the Community to feel free and comfortable in approaching the Police at any time, highlighting the commendable initiative of cleaning Creek Road Market, which is one of the biggest markets in Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Finance/Administration, DCP Samuel Erale-Etaifo, advised Officers and Men of the Command to prioritize their health, emphasizing its importance in their line of duty.
