… Our Educational grant is born out of our love for education; Chief Okocha
The state representative of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Tony Okocha, KSC, DSSRS (JP), has said that the provision of educational grants to students is born out of his love for education. He made this statement during the official presentation of grants to qualified students.
He further stated, “During our educational tour, we met several groups and age brackets, and after careful assessment, we noticed that the people who need this grant the most are undergraduates who have just gained admission. Last year, we bought JAMB forms for 150 people, and we assured all of them that if they passed, we would support their education. So far, almost 50 persons have been admitted into tertiary institutions, and we are providing them with this support.”
Sir Okocha assured that he is not a politician who believes in mere speeches and affirmed that he will provide the basic resources required for clearance in their respective institutions. “We will provide our support from now till the last day you graduate. In other words, it will be a yearly initiative. Please don’t drop out, as there will be many challenges you’ll face, but you have to summon the strength to overcome them and make us all proud.”
Chief Tony further opined, “Before I became the state representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, no representative before me had any tangible project. But it’s obvious that we are making a mark and showing tangible progress. Our projects are based on needs assessment; that’s why they are people-oriented, and we will yet do more.”
The wife of the state representative on the board of the NDDC, Lady Ogechi Okocha, in her speech, thanked her husband for having a heart of gold while also advising the beneficiaries to ensure they excel in their studies. She said, “You all must realize that you’re now our investment, and the best way to pay us back is to graduate with excellent grades. Remember, the program is for either four or five years and will not cover students with carryovers.”
The beneficiaries, who spoke to newsmen after the event, thanked Chief Okocha for his benevolence while also praying for God to guide him and grant him increased grace for more accomplishments and higher offices.
